Day 17

Today was a very special day for the students from the Mayflower School who are spending three weeks in Bell St. Albans. They had a full day trip to London, the capital of the United Kingdom, and visited some of the most iconic landmarks of the city.

The journey started early in the morning, when they boarded a coach that took them to St Paul's Cathedral, one of the largest and most beautiful churches in the world. They admired its impressive dome, its magnificent interior and its rich history. They also climbed up to the Whispering Gallery, where they could hear each other's whispers from across the room.

Next, they crossed the Millennium Bridge, a modern pedestrian bridge that connects St Paul's with the Tate Modern, a museum of contemporary art housed in a former power station. They explored the different galleries and exhibitions, and saw works by famous artists such as Picasso, Warhol, Matisse and Rothko. They also enjoyed the stunning views of the Thames River and the city skyline from the viewing platform.

After a lunch break, they continued their tour to the Tower Bridge, one of the most recognizable symbols of London. They walked across the bridge and learned about its history and engineering.

Finally, they arrived at the Tower of London, a historic fortress that has been a royal palace, a prison, a treasury and a zoo. They joined a guided tour led by one of the Yeoman Warders, also known as Beefeaters, who told them stories and legends about the Tower and its inhabitants. They saw the Crown Jewels, the ravens, the medieval armour and weapons, and the famous Traitors' Gate.

The day ended with a surprise party for Guillermo, who turned 14 today. His classmates sang him happy birthday and gave him a cake and some presents. They all had a great time and agreed that it was a great day.
